Description: This is a very amazing large petrified crystalized Eocene wood limb / tree branch or trunk specimen which was collected from the Green River formation from the ancient now extinct Lake Gosiute in the Eden Valley area, Sweetwater County, Wyoming. Wyoming’s Lake Gosiute was a large crocodile-infested water body in a closed basin. This gorgeous specimen has been polished on one end and has beautiful and rare quartz crystallization and a small bit of petrified algae and cyanobacteria growth matrix on the outer layer which is also called stromatolitic carbonate coating as described in Mustoe & Viney's research papers. Most rockhounds just say petrified algae. This piece measures 3.47 inches long by 5.45 inches wide and weighs 3 pounds.
