Achievement: The President of the United States of America takes pleasure in presenting the Navy Cross to Lieutenant, Junior Grade Willard Ernest Eder, Jr., United States Naval Reserve, for extraordinary heroism in operations against the enemy while serving as Pilot of a carrier-based Navy Fighter Plane in Fighting Squadron TWO (VF-2), attached to the U.S.S. LEXINGTON (CV-2), in action against enemy Japanese forces on 7 and 8 May 1942, in the Air Battle of the Coral Sea. With accurate understanding of his objective and bold perseverance in attaining it, Lieutenant, Junior Grade, Eder destroyed one Japanese fighter plane and courageously attacked several others. Credit: Willard Eder became a World War II Navy Ace, credited with shooting down 6.5 enemy aircraft in aerial combat. Provenance: Collection acquired from the Bob Troubetzkoy Estate of San Francisco in 2015 who was an autograph collector of WW2 flying aces, AVG aces, and generals. All the WW2 hereos in his collection are deceased, therefore, the autographs are extremely rare. Condition Varies.
