LYNNE ARRIALE Nuance: The Bennett Studio Recordings Pianist Lynne Arriale is best known for a series of exceptional trio recordings, 'Nuance' however, accommodates a new sound - that of first class trumpeter Randy Brecker. Also present are two other dream teammates, bassist George Mraz and drummer Anthony Pinciotti. The configuration is different, but Arriale's musical presence remains unmistakable; and although the musicians had never played together as a unit before the recording session, the synergy they created suggests a band of longstanding. Separate audio and video discs make up "Nuance" and these include different versions of the programme taped at the studio sessions. After tracks for the CD had been recorded the same compositions were then performed in front of an audience which allows the viewer to see the group's special chemistry in action, and much more getting visual documentation of the subtle yet assured leadership and engaging personality that makes Arriale such a powerful presence on the bandstand for both fellow musicians and listeners. Thes DVD also comes with personal interviews of each band member and one with this combo producer, Suzi Reynolds, which was very insightful.
