Description: Hello and welcome to The House of Chrome. You are looking at a quality 2nd generation dynamic uni-directional "shotgun" microphone manufactured by Electro Voice during the early 1950's to late 1960's. Again, this 644 shown is the 2nd generation model with the painted stock finish and it comes with the newer cast iron desk stand that makes an excellent platform for this top heavy microphone. Pic # 2 shows this very model mic in an old 1960's E.V catalog along with some other models of E.V from that era. The 1st gen 1950's 644 model and the 2nd generation model look almost identical with the exception of the lower pistol grip which E.V changed just slightly. This 644 microphone was an affordable quality model that was very modern for it's time and gave the user quite a bit of reach. The polar pattern was ideal for picking up sound that was directly in front of the mic and at distance. If you wanted a studio quality mic the E.V 642 model was ideal but for standard use the 644 would get the job done. The 644 is a dual impedance mic depending on how the mic or cable is wired but again, non-working as the element is dead. This microphone is quite massive being 16 inches in length and a couple pounds in weight. It's going to draw attention anywhere it's displayed. As you can see in the detailed pictures provided this 644 has a very good physical appearance and one of the nicer examples you could ask for. The sage green painted housing is original and shows just a few lite scratches and some paint chips. It's free of any dents or pitting. A conservative 7 on a scale of 1 - 10. The front screen is free of any dents. The on / off switch and joint mechanism work fine and the threading for the cable and stand is perfect. Mic will screw onto any desk or floor stand you have though a stand is provided. MICROPHONE STAND SHOWN IS PART OF THIS SALE... The stand is a newer cast iron model. Brand unknown. It has a nice design that compliments the 644 and has a heavier, wide stance that makes it ideal for the mic keeping it upright where it belongs. It's virtually identical to the classic Atlas DS-5 model. It's a 1980's era Chinese brand. The stand is in very nice condition showing just lite wear. The black paint is free of chips or scratches and the stand is has a short 4 inch chrome riser. The riser shows some heavier scratches. It has the 3 original pads on the bottom as well. You have everything you need. As with all my vintage microphones... I can promise you will be happy with it for the price paid. If not...I have a no hassle return policy. The shipping will be on you as I believe that's fair but the original purchase price would be refunded. Simply return in the same nice condition...period. Check my rating.
