Description: This is a very finely hand carved cameo of Athena. This cameo and setting date from the late 1800s. The frame is crafted from 935 Silver. The frame is embellished with colorful enamel work and three flat cut garnets. The enamel is in very good condition, I do not see any imperfections. The frame features the intricate design with white, green, blue, purple and turquoise enamel. The oval flat cut garnet are each placed in a secure bezel setting. The top of the cameo frame features a fine small ball boarder. The back of this cameo frame is hallmarked 935 Silver With a tree and an Austro-Hungarian cartouche. Although, I do not know who the artist is, I do know that it is an extremely fine rendering of a left facing Athena. The carving is completely hand done on shell. The layers of shell displayed with the carving is truly amazing and the work of a master craftsman. The clasp is a straight pin with a rolling c clasp. This cameo is presented in excellent condition.
