Cover franked with a 55 cent US Flag stamp and an 8 cent Seal stamp #1464. This 308 foot Salmon Class submarine was built at Groton, CT between 1936 and 1938 and commissioned 30 April 1938. This proud submarine fought in the Pacific Theater of WW II, making 12 war patrols and earning ten WW II Battle Stars. In Nov 1944, as a much older submarine, she was assigned to crew training at Pearl Harbor and New London until the end of WW II and decommissioned 15 November 1945.
