The commemorative coin is dedicated to the legendary warriors of the Zaporozhian Sich - the Cossacks-Kharakterny. These heroes, covered with mystical glory, were distinguished by their unsurpassed skill in battle and mastery of weapons, which caused fear among enemies and admiration among allies. Historian Dmytro Yavornytsky described them as knights whom “neither fire, nor water, nor saber, nor ordinary bullet, except a silver one, could take”. Today, Ukrainian defenders, like their ancestors, demonstrate exceptional courage, steadfastness and loyalty to the Motherland, continuing the glorious traditions of the Cossacks. On the obverse of the coin, in the center of the composition, a stylized figure of a soldier is depicted, who carefully holds in his hands and protects the small State Emblem of Ukraine - a symbol of freedom and independence. The composition symbolizes the eternal desire of the Ukrainian people to live in their own sovereign state. On a matte background – enemy bullets that bounce off the military, without hitting the “Ukrainian soul”. Under the coat of arms – the inscription UKRAINE, denomination 5, graphic symbol of hryvnia and year of minting – 2024, on the left next to the military – the logo of the Banknote and Mint of the National Bank of Ukraine. On the reverse of the coin on a mirror background is depicted a stylized image of a Cossack-character guarding a bird – a symbol of freedom, which visually resembles a trident. The composition reflects the connection between modern war and the Ukrainian spirit of the times of the Cossacks.
