Description: Pua KumbuThis traditional Pua Kumbu that has motif of burong kaki panjai (bird with long legs) along the horizontal border and has a diamond shaped or net-like design in the middle. This pua has some writing on one side.There are many legends of the origin of the Pua, but one version starts with Menggin, an Iban hunter who shoots a bird using his blowpipe. When he went to get the bird, he found a woven skirt which belonged to Dara, the daughter of Singalang Burong (God of War).After Menggin and Dara's marriage, he and his son returned to the Iban world with a jacket (baju burong) and her kain (woven skirt). These items were passed down to the Iban women, so they could weave the same designs and led to the beginning of pua kumbu. In excellent condition with prominent red color and a beautiful, complex motif as shown in the picture.Size is 77 x 39 in. Made in Borneo around 1930s.
