Description: Please read item description The War Illustrated, Vol. 5; # 112 (November 20th 1941) Front cover: Queen Elizabeth, mammoth Cunard White Star Liner, is here seen entering the dock at Singapore for repairs and overhaul. Since the news was published of her arrival in New York on March 7 1940, after her secret maiden voyage from Clydebank, little has been heard of this great vessel, which has since been used as a transport, possibly conveying some of the many thousands or reinforcements sent to Malaya. Her length of over 1,000 feet is difficult to visualize owing to foreshortening. In this issue: The Swastika Makes Trouble South Of Panama (Photos of Nazi activities in Chile, Argentina and Brazil) Captains Of Germany’s Mighty War Machine (Portrait photos including amongst others, Von Kluge, Von Bock & Heinz Guderian) Maybe We Can Learn From Hitler’s Army What They Bomb At Bremen (A drawing of the port of Bremen specially drawn for The War Illustrated) Just What Damage Have We Done To Germany? (Evidence of the damage to Germany’s infrastructure) Dropping To Earth At Split-Second Intervals (Full page photo of a British parachute drop) Now The Crimea Is Caught In The Nazi Net Will They Be In Time? Maybe These Tanks Of Ours Will Help Turn The Tide In Russia (Double page photo of Matilda tanks being loaded onto ships) Convoy Raiding Is Now A “Desperate Assault” (Dramatic photos of air attacks on British convoys) Adrift In Mid-Ocean: Seen From A U-Boat (Photos of survivors of U-Boat attacks) Our Diary Of The War Off For A “Cruise” In Tobruk’s Perimeter (Full page photo of an A9 Cruiser Mk I tank) Behind The Front: Battle Of Supplies In Russia (The logistical difficulties in moving supplies in Russia) Mud And Man Combine To Thwart The Nazis (Photos of German vehicles struggling through the Russian mud) After The Battle The Heavy Hours Of Captivity (Photos of British troops in German P.O.W. camps) “Commando” Men Have “Guts” And “Gumption” (Photos of British commandos training) “I Was There” (We sang as the Germans shelled us at Calais) “I Was There” (I shall never forget that first Blitz night) plus more THE WAR ILLUSTRATED Read about World War II as it happened and as it was portrayed to the British public. This newspaper was published every two weeks from the start of hostilities in 1939 through the war and until 1947. As its title suggests this publication contains a wealth of archive material including dozens of photographs from the various news agencies in each issue. It does therefore include photographic material covering every theatre of conflict and taken from both the allies and axis lines, although, as one would expect, the text and the accounts of action do have a definite bias towards the allied forces. Please note: These newspapers are 100% original (not copies or reprints) and as such, due to their age, may contain slight yellowing of the pages, staple rust marks, missing or loose staples and other marks or signs of their age. This does however add to their authenticity and every copy is perfectly readable and every issue will posted in appropriate packaging to afford maximum protection. All issues are generally in stock and bespoke lots can be assembled to your requirements as a special Ebay “Buy it Now” purchase with a significant discount for multiple issues. Let me know your requirements, through Ebay messages only, for a bespoke Ebay “Buy it Now” quote.
