Description: Paperback book, "The Missouri River-The River Rat's Guide to Missouri River History and Folklore," 1974, mint condition, 96 pages. Edited and published by Kenneth R. Canfield, and Richard L. Sutton Jr. M.D. These tales of Missouri River history and folklore were compiled by Cecil R. Griffith (1903-1970), a member of the Corps of Engineers who recorded his favorite stories of the Missouri River. The authors transcribed the tales and published them in memory of "Old Griff," adding a biography of Old Griff and a chapter about how the Missouri River has been shaped by geology and by man - its history and hydraulics. According to friends and family, "Old Griff loved the river and over the years came to know as much about it as anyone - from Rulo, Neb., to St. Louis - every crook and turn and sand bar and eddy -- tales interspersed with history, folklore and technical data about the river."
