Description: I am very familiar with the two dozen or more bootlegs. After hearing from many Misfits experts in the last 24 hours, here is the consensus: The wax is a genuine first pressing of 500: 1. The matrix etchings: A: A-101 RICH SPECTRUM B'klyn N.Y B: B-102 RICH NONE of the bootlegs have these matrix etchings. 2. The center labels. The bootlegs have the band listed as "The Ghouls" or "The Unfits" or no text at all on the labels. My copy center labels match the original 500 pressed exactly. 3. The provenance. I have about two dozen highly elusive Misfits pressings I'll also be listing for an OG punk gentleman who’s owned these for many decades. This pressing was on Blank Records, the only pressing with drummer Manny. Whether apocryphal or not, Manny allegedly says he lost 100 copies in a fire, reducing the total of the original wax pressing to 400. 286 folks say they own a copy on Discogs. Some may have those mis-catalogued, and I’m sure there are folks who own a copy that have not logged them on Discogs. Presumptively, there may be 250-300 left in existence. Per several experts, the sleeve appears to be a mismatch. Per a very knowledgeable expert, it appears the sleeve may be from the “Ghouls” variant, as seen in pics in this posting in comparison to the real deal. This version was very well done, but not the original, nonetheless. The original was not a “fold over” as I have possession of, but rather a glued version wherein the back overlapped the front a bit at the top seam. The condition: There is a crack to the dead wax area that does bleed into the Side A grooves about half of the way as it diminishes in prominence. It plays through quite nicely, though a tolerable tick can be heard in the last quarter or third of the song, please see detailed video. One expert had shared that this tick is commonly observed on these original pressings because “Flores has stated these were “air bubbles” from a substandard pressing plant.” Whether this tick is from the pressing plant issue or the crack bleeding in, I cannot say, but it “feels” like it’s from the crack bleeding through. By the “letter of the law”, the crack alone perhaps makes this grade as Poor. That said, a rating of Poor does the fidelity and listening reality a disservice IMHO, thus I’ve graded it as VG, as I believe the tracks themselves play largely VG+ to my ears. Under lit magnification, there are a handful of relatively light strays, nothing that comes close to overpowering the music to my ears. The was retains much of its gloss as well. The sleeve appears comfortably VG+ to me, but again, per consultation, this is most definitively a mismatched sleeve from the “Ghouls” pressing. There are no other inserts except a plain white inner sleeve. All of these things can be confirmed via the link below. There, you will see the original and all the variants. Careful review of this information will confirm everything you see and read: https://www.discogs.com/master/110652-The-Misfits-CoughCool-bw-She I have created a very detailed video as well.
