Contains reporting on the wedding of Princess Beatrice (daughter of Queen Victoria) to Prince Henry of Battenberg; the International Inventions Exhibition in South Kensington; a special feature about Hatfield House, where Queen Elizabeth I grew up; the unification of Bulgaria with Eastern Rumelia under Alexander of Battenberg; the United Kingdom general election for 1885, which saw an increase in power for the Liberals led by William Gladstone; and the Serbo-Bulgarian War. Also contains the original serialized version of THE MASTER OF THE MINE by Robert Williams Buchanan. Among the many fine engravings are a full-page portrait of Henry Morton Stanley, who had just become governor of the Congo Free State; a full-page portrait of Ulysses S.
