In the 1950s Han Fuchs, the son of the proprietor of Fuchs Greven, the specialist retail shop in Dusseldorf, developed a new coloring whilst he was on a three month stay at the Spode manufactory. The new coloring used a rich ultramarine blue, rich yellow and a subtle green after the style of traditional Dutch tin-glazed ware. It is this version which was named Blue Bird and produced on the Marlborough shape. The design originates from a pattern dating from about 1838. The same design appears on Blue Harvest and Brafferton. Spode Blue Bird was produced from 1958 to 1990. Some small black marks on the back only from use.
