INSTRUCTIONS ON PROCESSING TFK DAMASCUS SCRAPThe Damascus scrap you have just purchased is a mixture of twist, random, snake eye, ladder patterns etc. Depending on the mix of the scrap you received, you may be able to use it as is or you may need to re-forge it into other shapes or thickness at a cherry red heat of (1500 degrees). After shaping, grinding and buffing to a 400 grit surface finish, you may want to harden the part by quenching it at 1500 degrees in a light oil to harden it and make the patterns in the steel more contrasting and distinct after etching. After hardening, buff to 400 grit, clean with acetone, and etch in a solution of 20% ferric chloride to 80% distilled water, until the desired surface effect is achieved. Clean in baking soda and water with 4000 grit steel wool and then with 2000 grit wet dry sand paper. Dry the part, and oil with WD40.
