Description: Antique Rookwood Ceramic Studios artistry vase, a great beauty! This is a beautiful vellum pottery vase from Rookwood featuring a muted pastel flower and branch and drooping leaves or berry pattern on the entire body. Or, grapes? Look at those beautiful colors! We have surface crazing consistent with its age (at this point it's 120+ years old!) and features the customary Rookwood stamp, XII for 1912, and 926D at the bottom of the vase. Measures 7.75" tall. That D at the end of the style # denotes the size of the vase style. Each shape design could be produced in multiple sizes. Rookwood sizes were defined with the letters A, B, C, D, E and F with A representing the largest size in a particular shape and F the smallest. Rookwood size letters were impressed and typically found right after the shape number. Thus the D on this one normally meant it was mid-sized for this shape. As for the "CS", in Rookwood pottery markings, the letters "CS" shaped like this is the signature for Carrie Steinle, noted Rookwood artist. Caroline Frances Steinle, known as Carrie by her employer, worked as a pottery decorator for Rookwood from 1892 through 1925, and she was attributed as one of the women who helped make Rookwood Pottery a success. Lastly, that V is for Vellum finish. PLEASE take time to review all the photos. These colors are just so pretty. And, the vase's surface is very soft and smooth, inviting you to touch. Weighs over 1.5 pounds on my scale all by itself. I ship quick!
