Description: Resurrectionby Leo Tolstoy Translated by Louise Maude New York: Grosset & Dunlap, n.d. (c. 1913) Photoplay edition with frontispiece depicting "the great prison scene" from the 1912 silent movie, Resurrection. The movie starred Blanche Walsh, a famous American stage star of the day, who had played in the stage adaptation of Resurrection on Broadway. This would be Walsh's only film as she died three years later. (In the late 1920's, Grosset & Dunlap issued another photoplay edition in conjunction with the 1927 silent film adaptation starring Dolores del Río.) Hardcover. 519 pages. Good vintage condition. Previous owner's name to front end paper. Otherwise, pages clean & unmarked. A bit of give to hinges, but binding remains solid. Mild slant to spine. Covers have wear at corners & spine ends; rubbing to edges of spine; spine titles rubbed & fading; typical rubbing to back board. An attractive, solid copy of this early edition of one of Tolstoy's classic novels.
