Really Sweet Vintage Rookwood Art Deco Cabinet Vase "XLIV" 1944 #6457 Matte Blue

Description: Featured in this auction is an amazing cabinet vase made by Rookwood Pottery. The vase is in excellent, near-mint condition with no chips, no cracks, no crazing and no repairs. This piece is almost 5" tall, 4" wide at the body, and just over 2" wide at the mouth. The base of the pottery is stamped with the Rookwood Pottery flame mark, the shape number 6457 and the production year XLIV (1944). The vase features a beautiful art-deco, Asian-inspired design of geometric scallops (a stylized cloud motif) at the neck with a lovely scene on the body of marsh reeds and butterflies. This gorgeous glaze combination is a matte, lighter-blue underglaze with a thicker, matte darker-blue overdrip that hasn't quite reached the base. The glaze drip, visible inside and out, creates a lovely texture and dimension on the design. Stilt marks are barely visible on the base, and the interior appears to be lightly stained from gentle use. The vase is otherwise very clean and displays rich color and texture.
