ADDITIONAL INFORMATION:The large, sprawling mill building sitting west of the southern New Hampshire town of Wilton, in Hillsborough County, NH, was once originally known as the Daniel Cragin Mill, which is an historic watermill that once produced woodenware, dry measures and wonderfully handmade wooden pantry boxes, featuring fitted lids and sturdy, nailed sidewalls. It was originally established by Daniel Cragin as a rural New Hampshire manufacturing site in 1858, prior to the outbreak of the US Civil War. Since its inception and for over 150 years, the mill under the name of Daniel Cragin and then after the beginning of the 20th century, under the name E. B. Fyre, continued to produce mainly wooden measures and other woodenware, such as the antique wooden, lidded pantry box with nailed sidewall seams, offered for sale in the listing. The mill still stands and has been converted into a small museum and gift shop, featuring the antique wares once produced at the mill, which once employed many residents of the town of Wilton and other surrounding farms and nearby rural communities. DESCRIPTION:Offered for your review and consideration is this absolutely wonderful and just recently discovered mid-19th century American antique New England primitive 7" in diameter, large bentwood oak measure, featuring sturdily nailed sidewalls. The large measure enjoys its original wood patina, which has natural matte, dry surfaces and has simply fabulous amber/honey color, with chocolate veins. The measure remains untouched and exactly how it was when it and four more Daniel Cragin or E. B. Fyre, Wilton, New Hampshire pantry boxes and measures were removed from the early southern New Hampshire estate where they were found in an old attached barn, adjacent to the early post and beam home. This is a signed Daniel Cragin measure and stamped with a maker's mark. It's an early example from before E. B. Fyre taking over mill operations from Daniel Cragin, who originally founded the Wilton, New Hampshire woodenware mill, prior to the US Civil War in 1858. All original, with cut-out wood plank floor, bentwood oak sidewall and nails. Untouched. A few scuffs and stains. Very scarce and hard to find. CONDITION:Good to Very Good overall antique condition. There are 9 front sidewall seam nails. All original sidewall seam fasteners are present.
