Description: This is a rare classic Bizen tea ceremony tea bowl or ‘chawan’ by master artist-potter Morimoto Katsura. The bowl has a fine film like wood ash glaze called ‘youhen’ on the exterior. Such bowls are extremely highly valued by practitioners of the Japanese tea ceremony. The signed box secures the authenticity of the piece & adds to its value. This piece was purchased at Xanadu Gallery in San Francisco in 2009. The piece measures 4 1/2” in diameter and 3 1/4” in height. There are no chips, cracks, or repairs. The bowl was never used by the current owner.
