Description: This would be an interesting read for anyone wanting to see an example of how early industrial organization psychology was applied to the workplace through this interesting book which was given to the leadership of General Motors in 1943. It's about leadership, but more importantly, about understanding and treating their employees as individuals rather than part of a generalized workforce. The handbook is titled, "Man to Man on the Job - A Series of Meetings for Foremen and Executives of General Motors Corporation". Written by Ralph L. Lee. Mr. Lee also has the title of Doctor, but unsure what his doctorate was but, his background seemed to be related to engineering and sales. I think the author is of primary interest because while there were psychology books written and experiments performed regarding I/O psychology prior to 1943, were those ideas being applied in this handbook or was Dr. Lee simply applying his own ideals? Either way, it would still be educational and an addition to the field. Dr. Lee's tenure at General Motors extended to at least 1961 so a great question is, did his ideas work? I have very little biographical information regarding Dr. Lee but would want to know, are his ideas influenced by the likes of Walter Dill Scott or Hugo Munsterberg? Did he know about the Hawthorne Studies or Roethlisberger's Interview Program? I think answering the above would be a great I/O psychology thesis! The condition is very good - a clean book - no tears or stains. The cover has these unusual vertical creases, likely folds from someone bending it to fit in their pocket. It's quite minor and won't distract from the contents. This is a smaller paperback book, almost pocket sized - approximately 4" x 6" with 91 pages filled with a lot of illustrations so, it's also a fun educational resource.
