Description: A fine example of a 2 piece United States Diplomatic Corps or Government Official's button of the post Civil War period. Albert# OD-29. This example has a backmark that reads RMDC " G. BENEDICT .=. BERLIN .=. ". Button measures 28.70mm. A stylized eagle with "E PLURIBUS UNUM" on a ribbon in the eagle's beak. Mcguinn / Bazelon book attributes this backmark to Benedict of Berlin, Connecticut. However, I believe this button was made in Berlin, Germany for our European diplomats. Albert notes that the button was possibly used at the American Embassy in Spain as late as 1913. Button retains all of its original gilded finish. See photos for condition details. All buttons are guaranteed to be original and of the period indicated in the description. Nearly all buttons being auctioned on Ebay will have a starting bid of $9.99, with no reserve ever, regardless of the button's value. We list some buttons for sale, at fixed prices, in our Ebay store. We will always combine shipping for multiple purchases. If you do make multiple purchases, please request an invoice for the total cost of your purchases including combined shipping before making payment.
