You have to apply them to a light-colored surface to create the contrast. The material is the same high-gloss exterior-grade vinyl used in making signs and vehicle lettering. I can also reverse the colors - white numbers with a gold outline, if you want to put them on a dark surface like a car window (see sample). Just ask when ordering. Measure the area you want to place the sticker before choosing the size. Ideal surface to place it on is smooth metal, glass or plastic.
