Description: The Longleaf Pine Tree add an elegant feel to any landscape. The evergreen trees naturally prune their lower branches enabling them to grow almost completely straight. The reddish brown, scaly bark will peel as birds and wildlife search for insects that live inside. The longleaf pine needles are long and dark emerald green. They grow in clusters at the end of branches.Like all pine trees, the longleaf pine cone has both male and female counterparts found on the same tree. Pine cones typically appear in the late fall or winter of the second year. They are the largest fruit of all southern pines and contain seeds that provide food for wildlife such as deer, mice, and squirrels. This Pine tree can reach up to 80 to 100 feet tall and 30-40 feet wide at full size maturity and can live for over 300 years. The longleaf pine growth rate is up to 2-3 feet per year until they become mature trees. They are the perfect pine trees for privacy!Pine tree ecosystems consist of rare plant and animal species in a coniferous forest habitat. These habitats typically occur in places with warm summers and cool winters and are of the most biodiverse in the United States. Bird species such as red cockaded woodpeckers and brown headed nuthatches frequently nest in pine forests. These fast growing trees are a true treasure plentifully found in many southern forests in Florida, Georgia, and Alabama. This pine species prefers sandy, dry, acidic soil conditions and prefers full sun to grow fully. The trunk of this evergreen conifer is covered in thick, peeling bark and the long evergreen pine needle leaves can grow up to 18 inches long. Perfect for windbreaks or to provide privacy. The best time of year to plant a pine tree is in spring or fall. If planting trees in fall, you will still have plenty of time to establish before winter since they are so fast growing. The Long Leaf Pine tree is fire resistant making it excellent for mass plantings. They can grow extremely fast, so it is important to choose a planting site to last for many years to come.Grow pines best in the southeastern United States in USDA plant hardiness zones 7-10. These shade trees are also salt spray tolerant and safe to plant in coastal areas. Includes one to five Pine Trees in 4.25" containers (as pictured). Plant Hardiness: There are many variables involved in plant hardiness. We use generally accepted cold hardiness zone information for each plant. This does not consider microclimates created by altitude, rainfall or directional location. In any given year temperatures can fluctuate a full zone, up or down. Such factors as lack of snow cover, early or later extremes and protections from mulch or buildings can also have an effect. If you have questions about plant hardiness, we encourage you to contact your local County Extension Office. Warranty/Package/Shipping: We usually ship within a few days after payment is received. If it is going to be a little longer, we will send an email. Delivery confirmation is included in the price of shipping. Plants are not shipped bare root. Our nursery license from the FL Department of Agriculture allows us to ship to all states, excluding CALIFORNIA. We do NOT ship to Hawaii, Puerto Rico or California. All sizes of plants are listed and a picture of the actual plant is usually included in the description. We only package and send out healthy plants. Once the plants are received, they need to be taken out of the boxes immediately and watered, but not left in water. If there is a health problem with a plant upon receipt, we will refund the price you paid for that plant. We reserve the right to request the plant be returned to me prior to issuing the refund, but a digital photo of the damaged plant is appreciated and may forestall the need to return the plant. Plants are sent priority mail or UPS ground, so they stay in boxes the least amount of time. You have three days from the date you received your purchase to notify use of problems. Please note that cosmetic damage may occur naturally from shipping and will not endanger your plant. Bent or broken stems or dirt falling out of a pot do not constitute damage to the plant. Some slight wilting during hot weather is also normal, especially with perennials or annuals. Please be aware that foliage may be trimmed for shipping if that is in the best interest of the plant and at certain times of the year some plants may still be in a dormant state and have no foliage yet.
