Original 1840's Victorian Fine White Muslin Hand-Embroidered Gown Museum Quality

Description: Beautiful early, original 1840's gown with hand-embroidered sprigs of flowers scattered about on high quality white, semi-sheer Muslin. The one-piece gown is all hand-sewn, with short, tiered, and self-ruffled sleeves. This gown is in excellent condition--I would say mint. The dress features very skilled sewing with drop shoulders and piping detail. The sleeves measure 7" long from the dropped shoulders, and are 16" from one to the other. There is a tightly gathered, sewn detail at the front, often seen in 1840's gowns and bodices. The dress is 50" long from top of shoulder to hem, with a 23" waist, and 30" bust. Cartridge pleating at the waist is tightly gathered. From waist to hem is 35". The dress closes at the back with hooks and eyes. This would have been worn during warm weather months, or a warm climate. It may have been worn as a wedding gown. There are a few tiny places that have been skillfully mended, so well that they really blend in with the fabric and are nearly imperceptible. There are no stains or wear, underarms have no wear or staining, and the entire dress fabric is strong. Please excuse my photos as I did not have the right size hoop to display it correctly, and it is a little wrinkled from being in storage from our house move.
