Description: ONE OF A KIND! OREGON'S GREEN PETRIFIED WOOD. This is a beautifully colored display face polished green Hampton Butte petrified wood slab with a neat variety of colors and contrast. Though this is a vast and productive petrified forest that spans many miles of hillsides and canyons, good rounds with nice color are a rare treat as most of what is found is incomplete and highly jasperized. This slab is very typical of exquisite specimens. This piece came from my private property. Regardless of it's story, it's an attractive specimen that will provide hours of fascination and enjoyment for it's new owner. The stone is slightly porous and takes an inconsistent polish, but I've made it shine a lot better than you might expect, it's ready to be shown with pride in your collection! A rare piece indeed! Arguably one of the most well known and interesting petrified wood deposits in Oregon is the "Green Wood" deposit at Hampton Butte in Central Oregon. This wood is both jasperized and agatized and is often more of a cast than a wood replacement, though exceptions to both of these are certainly found. The logs are more often than not fairly fractured, but the colors are unmatched anywhere else. The dominant color is green - REALLY GREEN! Specimens are sometimes accented with white, yellow, red, orange and other classic jasper tones, but green is what it's all about if you're looking for a good Hampton Butte specimen. Not every piece will polish consistently, this is polished for the collector market. While they don't all look like wood, a good specimen is tough to beat and a must have for any serious petrified wood collection - or even if you just happen to love green! If you haven't seen my other polished lapidary specimens before then you've been missing one of the best treasures found on eBay! This is a world class specimen for your collection. The piece is quite solid and meant to be handled. It is recommended to use a cotton swab with rubbing alcohol to remove any fingerprints or residue and handle by using your fingertip to grab the edge and place on the included display stand. Others sell slabs but seldom do you find anyone matching the material to a stand as I have done for your displaying enjoyment! It measures about 8 1/4" wide x 5 1/4" tall and is sliced about 3/8" thick. Weight is 13.5 ounces +/-. Easel stand not included.
