Description: Newstead Abbey - Fishpool Treasure Housed in a plastic case with black insert and 42 mm plastic medallion It's not a high quality item, but it is interestting, and it is a local Nottinghamshire medallion if you collect Nottinghamshire items Discovered on 22nd March 1966 during building works at Ravenshead, the hoard of 1,237 coins is the largest hoard of Medieval coins ever found in Britain and remains a mystery. Dating from between 1351 and 1464 the coins were mainly English, with 166 Burgundian and a few Scottish and French issues. The coins were discovered in stacks and appeared to have been buried in a box, which had disintegrated over time. The most likely scenario, based on the age and condition of the coins is that the box was buried by fleeing Lancastrians after the Battle of Hexham. The hoard is currently in the British Museum.
