Nelson A. Miles Union Civil War General, Indian Wars Medal of Honor Autograph .

Description: Nelson Appleton Miles [1839 1925] was a United States Army officer and Medal of Honor Recipient. The general began his military career in 1861 with the outbreak of the American Civil War. Miles saw action at the Battle of Antietam, Spotsylvania, the Wilderness and was wounded four times in battle. As a brigadier general he was awarded the Medal of Honor for his action at Chancellorsville. After the war he served out west and commanded in the Indian Wars and defeated the Kiowa, Comanche and the Southern Cheyenne tribes during the 1870's. In 1898, he was appointed as the 1st Military Governor of Puerto Rico. Listed for auction is the autograph of general Nelson Appleton Miles signed on a card. The autograph is signed ''Nelson A. Miles Lieutenant General Comd U.S. Army'' in black ink. The card measures 4.50 x 4.00 inches, it has toning otherwise is in very good condition.
