LUZON GOLD SILICATE SPECIMEN 2.99 GRAMS GOLD AND QUARTZ

Description: GOLD SPECIMEN from LUZON, the PHILIPPINES Ruler is 1/4" wide (6 mm). U.S. 10 cent coin is 17 mm in diameter. Specimen weight: 2.99 Grams - 46.2 Grains (Troy) Size: 21.9X12.5X10.3 mm Most gold aficionados stop for out-of-the-ordinary specimens. How many auriferous minerals from the Philippines have you seen lately? A friend who lives on the island of Luzon sent this to me. What looks like gold is gold - fine-grained, crystalline gold. The composition of the metal becomes more apparent when separated from the gangue. Milling up a similar rock yielded a nice line of 'color' in my pan. This 'grey ore' silicate seems to be some type of brecciated calcium carbonate. A closer, magnified look reveals speckles of another silvery mineral. I don't believe it's pyrite. My best guess is sylvanite. This ore reminds me of what came from Colorado's Sunnyside Mine. The matrix is dense and cabs up nicely. For those who've kept track of my store these past several years, you'll know I don't sell low-grade, faux specimen. If it shows real gold, it can't be low grade. I sell authentic, naturally-occurring ores with visible gold and other silicate w/gold specimen. These high-grade beauties are hard-to-find and expensive to obtain. My prices aren't based on the amount of gold contained, but upon the authenticity, rarity, and collectibility of these exotic rocks. U.S. SHIPPING - $3.50 (includes USPS tracking and to all U.S. destinations) INTERNATIONAL CUSTOMERS S&H $15.00 FAST REFUND OFFERED (If, for any reason, you're not happy with this item) I poured through old mining dumps for years looking at orange-yellow-rusty rock through a loupe, but I never found a piece with visible gold. Hydrothermal solutions carrying gold and silica crystallized into veins and larger formations of auriferous (gold-bearing) rock. Unless the ground you're working has been proven, or you know through some reliable source an area is rich, success is rarely a given. Forced into working entirely by hand, you'll learn in short order how labor-intensive gold digging can be. Whether breaking apart hard-packed clay or caliche with a pickaxe, wrestling with big rocks, shoveling, packing buckets of water and gravel, hauling gear into canyons, every phase gets the old ticker to pumping. In that respect, mining's not for the faint of heart. To the uninitiated, this hunt for wild gold may sound romantic, but don't think for a second it's easy. I tip my hat to heavy-equipment operators who work at the big mines. These guys and gals literally move mountains if permitted to do so. That’s got to be exhausting work. Even so, it's rare to see big mine owners and operators engage in the same ‘grunt work’ small-scale miners grow accustomed to. Not everyone takes to bludgeoning the ground with a pickaxe or shoveling gravel all day long. Whatever your bliss, when it comes to gold, some folks just enjoy playing in the dirt. It’s like we get to be kids again. The big difference is, it's more than fantasy. We’re digging for real buried treasure this time. Truth is, these days, I’ve become more of a ‘mouth miner’. The pick I swing is silver, neither steel nor aluminum; but that wasn’t always the case. Time was that prospecting - finding gold a person could call their own, evolved into one remarkable adventure after another. Pursuing my own Rivers of Gold proved the fulfillment of a lifelong dream. The average argonaut will expend every ounce of energy in their insatiable quest for gold. Time and again, I’ve felt the sting of disappointment when gold wasn't where I hoped it would be. Finds were weighed in the mind, but scales wouldn’t back up expectations. Scales can be a real PITA, eh? That agony-of-defeat aspect remains a constant in the world of gold mining. Still, with access to the right claims and a willingness to work them, an aspiring argonaut may emerge at season's end with a bit of heavy metal to rattle around in their poke. You absolutely must go where the gold is; then, once you've arrived, be allowed to work the deposit. During a 20 year sojourn in the western goldfields, that lifestyle suited me. Surrounded by nature, the simple, solitary life of the American prospector called me to hunt for wild gold in places where no one else thought to look.
