Description: Limoges Charger Cabinet Plate Elite 1900-1914 Hand Painted Game Bird Artist GYP Limoges Charger Cabinet Plate Elite Hand Painted Game Bird Artist GYP 1900-1914 A beautiful LIMOGES Charger or Cabinet Plate from Bawo & Dotter Hand Painted GAME BIRD artist G.Y.P. circa 1900-1914 In the 1860’s, Bawo & Dotter was established in New York City for the purpose of importing china, especially Limoges porcelain. The firm established its own decorating studio in Limoges, France in the early 1870’s named The Elite Works. Bawo & Dotter began manufacturing its own china in 1896 in Limoges. The green mark on this plate is the underglaze white ware mark #5 (Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition by Mary Frank Gaston) which was used after 1900. In addition, an overglaze decorating red mark is from The Elite Works and was used from 1900-1914. This mark incorporated Saint Martial from the seal of the City of Limoges and the mark is #9a (Collector’s Encyclopedia of Limoges Porcelain, 3rd edition by Gaston). The condition of this cabinet plate is excellent. We can find no defects. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, or hairlines. The gold appears to be as applied with age appropriate minor wear--highlighting the smooth rim of the plate. We find no rubbings or scratches on the plate. Please inspect the photos carefully. As collectors ourselves, we tend to be very picky. The artwork on this is beautiful with the proud game bird standing, holding his head high and seeming to look you directly in the eye. The artist was quite talented and the plate looks very beautiful with the yellow, green, & purple washes surrounding the game bird. The artfully drawn shadow seems to add a 3rd dimension to the painting. This stands 1" high and is 10 1/2" in diameter. Please view all pictures carefully as they are part of the description.
