Description: EXCELLENT CONDITION LITTLETON CUSTOM COIN FOLDER LIBERTY WALKING HALF DOLLAR SERIES 1937 to 1947 [Liberty Standing Half Dollars] Volume Two LCF10 Copyright 1999-2003 Made In U.S.A. Most collectors and numismatists consider the Liberty Walking half dollar to be the most beautiful silver coin ever issued by the U.S. Mint. It is also one of the most popular of all U.S. coins to collect. Minted from 1916 through 1947, all Liberty "Walkers" were struck in 90% silver. In designer Adolph A. Weinman's own words, the coin's obverse "..bears a full length figure of Liberty, the folds of the stars and stripes flying to the brezze as a background, progressing full stride toward the dawn of a new day, carrying branches of laurel and oaks, symbolic of civil and military glory. The hand of the figure is outstretched in bestowal of the spirit of Liberty." On the coin's reverse is "...an eagle perched high upon a mountain crag, his wings unfolded, fearless in spirit and conscious of his power. Springing from a rift in the rock is a sapling of Mountain Pine symbolic of America."Composition: 90% Silver, 10% Copper. Diameter: 30.6 mm. Weight: 12.5 grams. Edge: Reeded. This beautiful half dollar was first issued in 1916. Designer Adolph A. Weinman depicted Liberty striding toward the left, her right hand outstretched, with a star-spangled cape behind. In her left arm, she cradles an olive branch. At the lower left is a sun. The motif has a counterpart in earlier French coins and is said by some to have been inspired by The Sower, by Jean Francois Millet (1814-1874), created in 1850. The reverse features an eagle standing on a rocky outcrop, facing to the left, with a sprig of pine below the motto E PLURIBUS / UNUM. The designer's initials AW appear near the edge of the coin, beneath the eagle's left wing. On 1916 and early 1917 coins, mintmarks appear on the obverse beneath the word TRUST. On later 1917 and subsequent issues, they appear on the reverse near the rim below the foliage: S for San Francisco and D for Denver. Coins with no letter were struck at Philadelphia. Beneath each hole in the folder is the mintage quantity for that year and mint. Issues from 1916 through 1936 may be collected in Liberty Walking Half Dollar folder Number One. No coins are included. This coin book is in excellent condition! It looks as though it had never been used. Please see all photos for details. Check out my other items! Combined shipping available.
