Description: Original type D2 Matchbox by Lesney box for the 53b Mercedes Benz 220 SE Coupé showing red model image. The 53b model was issued in 1963 and deleted in 1967. This D2 box is likely produced in sometime in 1963 or early 1964. It transitioned to an E type box in late 1964. This D2 type box was produced for Lesney by Bowater & Scott printers (The hidden printer's logo is on the long core glue tab). The D2 boxes were made for only a relatively brief time and are coveted by collectors.
