Description: The Pasteur & Galt Apothecary Shop in Colonial Williamsburg, Virginia, was a significant medical establishment in the 18th century. It was founded as a partnership between Dr. William Pasteur, who started his own apothecary in 1759, and Dr. John Minson Galt, who opened his shop in 1768. The two became partners in 1775. Their business combined medical treatment, surgery, and the sale of medicines and other supplies. Apothecaries at that time were not just druggists; they acted as general practitioners. Both doctors made house calls, prescribed medicines, and treated patients on-site, including surgeries and midwifery. Their shop offered a wide range of goods, from drugs and medical tools to everyday items like spices, oils, and even toothbrushes.
