Description: For sale is a wonderful old master, drawing of a well-known mythological scene. The drawing comes from a private estate in Dutchess County of upstate New York. It was professionally framed at the highly regarded J Pocker & Son framing company in New York City. We are selling another work also signed P. Testa in our eBay store. This drawing hung together with that in the estate. We have included one picture of both of the drawings together in our picture section. Please keep in mind that this sale is just for the one drawing. Its a scene of Diana and Actaeon from the well known painting by the Italian Renaissance master Titian, finished in 1556–1559. It is considered amongst Titian's greatest works. It portrays the moment in which the hunter Actaeon bursts in where the goddess Diana and her nymphs are bathing. Diana is furious, and will turn Actaeon into a stag, who is then pursued and killed by his own hounds, a scene Titian later painted in his The Death of Actaeon The drawing signed in the lower left corner with some fading to the signature. The drawing having at one time being folded as there are square crease marks to the drawing. The bottom edges having losses and some small edge tears as would be expected for a very old work on paper. The image being in mostly good condition aside from the crease marks that are visible. Most likely tape hinged down in the upper corners to the backer board, but we have not completely removed the matting and backer board to not risk damaging the delicate paper. Gallery framed and matted under glass.
