M1895 Knife Bayonet and Metal Scabbard (MATCHING serial numbers) Manufacturer: Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Co., Solingen Model: M1895 Blade Length: 10.00" Serial #: Bayonet 17768 / Scabbard 17768 TEXT GOES HERETEXT GOES HERE --> Offered here is a WWI era German made bayonet and scabbard for a Chilean Mauser rifle. This was made by Weyersberg Kirschbaum & Company, Solingen. These bayonets were made from 1895-1901. The three intertwined circles on the ricasso are the trademark of Krupp Steelworks. They supplied the blade's steel. They symbolize the "Radreifen" - the seamless railway wheels patented in 1851 by Alfred Krupp. Krupp was the largest company in Europe at the beginning of the 20th Century. Overall, this bayonet is in Good - Very Good condition, considering its age and history. The press catch is functional with stiff spring tension. Both the pommel and guard are securely fastened to the tang. They have very light oxidation and scrapes. The finish is in the white. The rivets securely fasten the wood grip panels. They have light oxidation. The grips have a chip (near the pommel on the right grip panel), scattered compressions and draglines. The wood has started to darken with time. The blade's spine, sides and fullers have light handling marks and no unusual wear. There are no nicks or dings on the blade's cutting edge and it appears to have its original factory edge. The tip is intact and comes to a sharp straight point. The blade finish is in the white. There is a light layer of oil on the blade. The left ricasso is marked "WEYERSBERG / KIRSCHBAUM & CO. / SOLINGEN", the right ricasso has the Chilean crest and the Krupp crest. The right guard is marked with the serial number "17768". It MATCHES the scabbard. The metal scabbard is in Fair - Good condition, considering its age and history. The frog stud is securely attached to the body. The body has scattered impact marks, oxidation and scrapes. The oxidation is almost not worth mentioning. Most of the original finish remains and has turned a darker gray patina color. The scabbard frog stud serial number is marked "17768". It MATCHES the bayonet. This bayonet and scabbard will be a great addition to your Chilean WWI era rifle, or a bayonet collection in general.
