GEN James A. Garfield - 20th President of United States - 1878 Engraving

Description: GEN James A. Garfield - 20th President of United States Nice Wood-Engraving on 1878 Page of History with Minor Age Faults In mid-August 1861, Garfield organized the 42nd Ohio Infantry, rising from lieutenant colonel to full colonel within a few weeks. Twice he gained distinction: In January 1862 at the battle of Middle Creek, his greatly outnumbered brigade defeated the Confederates, thereby leaving him in control of eastern Kentucky. In September 1863 at Chickamauga, he made a daring ride under enemy fire. By then, he was a major general, the youngest officer to hold this rank. Garfield served as chief of staff under Major General William S. Rosecrans, commander of the Army of the Cumberland, though he undermined his superior by supplying negative information to the War Department. In December 1863, Garfield resigned from the Army to take his seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, to which the war hero had been elected the previous November without ever having campaigned.Reverse has Related/Unrelated Text SEE PICTURE(S) Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE 1878 Page of History ---------------------------- Size: Page is approximately 5.5" X 8.5" Print Condition: Excellent - Very Good - Good++ - Fair - Poor (but of historical interest)See picture(s) * Scattered printer's ink marks; Slight natural paper ruffle; Occasional light smudge; Minor age and handling wear on this fantastic wood engraving(s) << Click Here to See Other Prints >> This is an Original Print- Not a Reproduction Important: P/H is combined on multiple items that can be mailed together. Prior to this, virtually all prints (and engravings) were produced as illustrations to be included in a manuscript, book, newspaper, or pamphlet. Therefore, a vast majority of original prints have been over the years removed from these original sources. Prints are produced using many different techniques: relief printing (woodcut & wood engraving), intaglio printing (steel & copper plate engraving, drypoint, aquatint, etc), and planographic printing (lithography, serigraphy, inkjet, laser, etc.). While the commercial value of a print depends on such factors as age, rarity, and condition, the real value of a print is its tie to its history and/or its esthetic beauty.History-On-PaperI am proud to have sold to customers in the following countries: Argentina - Australia - Austria - Azerbaijan Republic - Bahrain - Belgium - Bolivia - Brazil - Canada - Chile - China - Cyprus - Czech Republic – Denmark –Ecuador - Finland - France – French Guiana - Germany - Greece - Hong Kong – Hungary - Iceland - India - Ireland - Israel - Italy - Japan - Jordan - Kuwait - Latvia – Lithuania - Malta – Malaysia - Mexico - Netherlands - New Zealand - Norway - Paraguay - Philippines - Poland - Portugal - Puerto Rico – Romania – Seychelles - Singapore - Slovakia - South Africa - South Korea - Spain – Sri Lanka - Sweden - Switzerland – Taiwan - Thailand -Turkey - Ukraine - United Arab Emirates - United Kingdom - and all 50 United States.
