Fine Antique Edwardian 9k Gold Peridot Amethyst Pearl Suffragette Floral Pendant

Description: A beautiful antique Edwardian 9k gold, peridot, pearl and amethyst Suffragette floral pendant, hallmarks for Gourdel Vales & Co., dating to circa the 1910s. This beautiful and poignant historical pendant was made at the peak of the British Suffragette movement when people wanted to show support towards the cause in any way they could including wearing the Suffragette colors of green, white and purple through their jewelry. The cause gained huge momentum in 1913 after the Suffragette Emily Davidson was hit by King George V's horse at the Derby and afterwards public demand became so overwhelming jeweler's became very busy creating pieces for the movement. This wonderful solid 9k yellow gold dangle pendant is in the form of a beautiful abstract butterfly, the pendant covered in pretty flowers, leaves and floral scrolls with a central bezel-set glowing lime green peridot with two silvery white pearls centered in the flowers and with four gorgeous bezel-set raspberry purple amethysts around the outside, the pendant with a fixed bail and a large dangling bail-super lovely! The pendant is marked on the reverse 'GV&Co' for Gourdel Vales & Company, established in Paris in 1827, they opened a London store in 1857 and closed in 1939. The pendant tests for 9k gold. The bail is stamped '10K' and tests for 10k gold. The pendant measures approximately 38mm x 23mm including the bail and drop. The peridot measures about 5mm across, the amethysts about 4mm and the pearls about 2.5mm. The bail will hold a chain up to about 4.5mm wide. The pendant weighs approximately 2.6 grams.
