Description: Vintage - Gorgeous "Elio" Zuni - Handcrafted - Turquoise & Silver Teardrop Pendant-1970s - Signed! Elio, a Zuni artist, contributes immense value and a rich narrative to the world of jewelry and turquoise. The Zuni reservation, nestled in Northwest New Mexico’s high desert at elevations ranging from 6,000 to 8,000 feet, covers 450,000 acres and is home to approximately 6,400 people, most of whom reside in the pueblo of Zuni. While we often associate Zuni art with fetish carvings and exquisite white-slipped pottery, their jewelry made of mosaic and finely carved turquoise stones has become a lasting legacy into the 21st century.Zuni silversmiths have a long tradition of crafting jewelry, learning the art form from the Navajo around 1872. In the early days, Zuni pieces closely resembled those of their Navajo neighbors, as both tribes employed similar design elements and worked with turquoise. This amazing piece of Zuni artisan, Elio, jewelry is from our great aunt's collection. She was a teacher on the reservation, and lived in Red Rock Canyon most of her life. Please see the seller photos for condition and dimensions. This is signed by the Zuni artisan "Elio".Will ship least expensive USPS.Thanks for looking!
