Description: CHARLES THEOPHILE LOUIS JOSEPH VAN ISTERDAEL (BERGEN, 22 MAY, 1873 – THE HAGUE, 5 MARCH, 1962) He was the son of musician Louis van Isterdael and Louise Charlotte Joséphine Gigault. He married Frederika Johanna Catharina Heijl in 1899 as a music teacher. For his services he was decorated as a knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau, the Order of Leopold and the Legion of Honour. He was buried at the Municipal Cemetery Westduin. He received his musical education at the Royal Conservatory of Brussels from Adrien François Servais and in 1890 he became the successor to Joseph Giese as solo cellist at the French Opera in The Hague. When the Residentie Orchestra was founded, he made the switch and played there until his retirement on 1 May 1940 (honourable discharge). He was also a member of chamber music ensembles such as the Hague Trio (Henri Hack, Karel August Textor), the Hague Toonkunst Quartet (Henri Hack, Voerman and Bart Verhallen), the Hague String Quartet (Sam Swaap, Adolphe Poth, Jean Devert) and the Hollandsch Kwintet (Henri Hack, Jac vd Burg, Frans Vink and Carel Oberstadt), with which he gave concerts throughout Western Europe. He was a teacher at the Municipal Music School Bergen at an early age and later a teacher at the Conservatory in The Hague. Bernhard van den Sigtenhorst Meyer dedicated his Cello Sonata opus 25 from 1926 to him, as did Alexander Voormolen and Hugo Dalen. Van Isterdael is also said to have written some works himself, such as a Ballade (for soloists, mixed choir and orchestra), Opstanding and Immortalité. TRACKLIST 1.
