Description: I am pretty sure that this vise was made in 1948. The date stamp definitely says 11 4?. The ? looks like the lower half of an 8 to me. Since my research shows that Craftsman did not make this vise in either 1940 or 1946 I conclude that it was made in November 1948. In the photos I included pictures of the 1948 Craftsman Tool Catalog and the page in that catalog showing this vise. Also included when you purchase this vise is a correct replacement emblem/badge. Someone before me replaced the original with one that doesn't really fit. I had plans to restore this vise and keep it for my shop but reality has confronted me with the certainty of too many other projects and too little time. Restored vises have sold here on Ebay for upwards of $500 (I checked actual sold prices for the past 3 years on Ebay). I carefully pack and ship, never had a damage claim and I pay for insurance in case it is damaged or lost in transit. It's heavy, weighing in at 45 pounds.
