Description: Callowhill Street Bridge in Philadelphia, PA. The card is undated, but the bridge was constructed in 1874-5 and on the back it has Philadelphia’s population as over 800,000, which it reached in the mid 1870’s. So I estimate the date of the card to be around 1875. The bridge was at Spring Garden and Callowhill Sts. It was an elaborate example of a Whipple Truss Bridge of cast and wrought iron. This is a double decked bridge (railroad & pedestrian). The wrought iron bridge frame included cast iron arches. The card is in good condition with no rips or creases.
