Description: This is a hand made rubbing of The Celtic Circle created with metallic gold wax crayon on a special black rag paper. A design from a page of the gospel of St. Matthew in the Book of Kells, probably the most splendid early Medieval illuminated manuscript still surviving. This design consists of five interlacing birds and ten reptiles or serpents with topknots and tails. The engraving from which this rubbing was taken is from an exhibition featured at The Washington National Cathedral by The London Brass Rubbing Centre and has more recently been on a National tour as part of their brass rubbing workshop.
