This rugged knife was designed by South African custom knifemaker J.D. Van Deventer. The non-locking D2 steel blade features a light stonewash finish, and the closed knife has a protruding spur that aids in opening the blade. When the thumb is placed on the spur while the blade is open, it can be used as securely as a locking knife. The extremely lightweight Voortrekker has a handle of black G10 and does not have a clip, as carrying a clipped friction folder in your pocket is not recommended. Instead, the knife comes with a compact Kydex sheath, so it can also be worn as a neck knife.D2 SteelWith a chromium content of 12%, D2 — a tool steel — can certainly be classified as a stainless steel. Since its chromium content is right on the threshold, however, a little more care for the D2 wouldn't go amiss. As an upper-tier conventional steel, D2 offers great edge retention and stability, though sharpening it takes a little effort.Friction FolderA friction folder has a freely moving blade without any restraints or locking mechanisms.
