Description: Birger Sandzen (1871-1954) - Swedish American - Early Original Linocut / Nailcut Block Print on Thin Paper with Original Frame FRAME SIZE: 21.5" W * 17.5" H IMAGE SIZE: 12" W * 9" H DATE: circa 1929 Print by Birger Sandzen (Swedish American 1871-1954), titled " Smoky Hill River at Twilight", a well known image by this revered artist, done with what is described as Nail head print making, similar to his woodblock and linoleum prints, though having much more precise definition and detail. Sandzen's works have a unique and very powerful quality and are highly sought. His images of the landscapes of the Southwest and parts of the Midwest are compelling and memorable and have risen in value steadily over the years. His works are exhibited in major museums throughout the country and are in important private collection. Pencil signed and titled on the lower margin. The sheet (15"x 12") is fine clean as shown. Paper is creamy buff color, with black ink print. (The paper is thin and must be handled carefully). Art work are not laid down, tape to the mat at the top corners of the sheet. And there's a mat lines. It's an old piece, but it appears to be in good condition. Glass is not included. Please examine the photos as they will give you a better idea of the condition.
