They were created to commemorate the 50th Anniversary of B&L's original Aviator Sunglasses, originally created and patented in the 30s for military pilots, and made famous by General Douglas MacArthur; and they definitely outdid themselves. The rigerous quality testing they performed, including extreme temperatures, humidity, and salt spray, on the frames, and drop ball testing on the lenses to ensure their scratch and impact resistance, was next to none. The additional 24k gold plating and added pearl brow bar and nose pads, add another touch to the already high level of style and sophistication on a legendary pair of glasses. The frames are fully adjustable, and are quality stamped after they pass inspection as follows: Top nose bridge- B&L Ray-Ban U.S.A. Bottom nose bridge- B&L Ray-Ban 5814 which corresponds to the size in mm of the lenses and the nose bridge itself. Further stamping on the beautiful gold frame is as follows: Right temple: Inner- 1937-1987 Outer- Ray-Ban Left temple: Inner- The General Outer- Ray-Ban Both lenses are laser etched BL near the hinges, and the iconic Ray-Ban on the top right lense. The frames certainly shine, but the lenses are the real show stopper. These glasses are outfitted with the classic RB 50 lenses. RB 50 lenses are photochromic, meaning they adjust their density (darkness) according to light and temperature; being the most dark in cold, bright conditions, making them great for activities such as skiing. Bonus, they also block a greater percentage of blue light throughout their absorption range as well. Included is the black leather hard protective case which is also in perfect condition, to help keep your new glasses in top condition.
