Description: This is a circa 1720-1763 British Square Poll Camp Axe believed to have come from the HMS Merlin, a British sloop scuttled by the British October 22,1777. The history of it being found in 1964 in the Delaware River can be found on the attached tag. A documented piece of Revolutionary War history. This is the first historic axe I have handled so I cannot tell you much that is not on the tag. The axe has a stamped name on one face and a shield shaped hallmark on the other. 10" long, 4" wide at blade,3 1/4" wide at poll. Authentic Revolutionary War artifacts are rare and I don't know how to price this one.
