The African Bufu/Fut are a Grassfields ethnic group located in the Bafut Subdivision of the North West Province, Cameroon; thought to have ancient roots in Niger-Congo from over 300 years ago. The Bufu/Fut are one of the few African peoples with traditional tribal leadership today. <>< ><> <>< >< Origin They were part of the estate of my favorite teacher, a world traveler from New Castle, Indiana. I had Mr Scott for Social Studies in 1967; soon after he returned from Peace Corps service in Africa. His hand-written note on their 1965 origin is still on the back of one of the warrior masks. He was an avid traveler and visited a total of 78 countries on 6 continents, as well as 49 of the 50 states. He also authored four books chronicling his adventures: My Peace Corps Experience, The Mini Sojourns, Miscellaneous Reflections, and The Big Trip. <>< ><> <>< >< Condition These masks are in good condition ~ rubs and stains showing normal wear one might expect on a vintage artifact. The animal fur on the gorilla mask has some wear. See photos.
