Description: Item : This vintage seascape was done by Laguna Beach, California artist Anton Gutknecht (1907-). It is oil on canvas and measures 18" x 24". With frame it measures 16" x 16.5" x 1.5". It is signed in the lower left. The frame a few slight nicks. The painting is in great condition. Anton Gutknecht instructed for many years at Vienna's Royal Academy before moving to southern California. Gutknecht has traveled extensively over the world, painting a wide variety of subjects. His works have won prizes in international competitions in Vienna, Paris, Rome, Naples, and Venice. His paintings are a mixture of realism with an idealistic beauty. Some of his Southern California scenes were reproduced as commercial prints. A 1980 book published by Foster Art Books titled "Painting Landscapes and Seascapes" by Anton Gutknecht" brought him recognition in the United States.
