Description: ANTIQUE VICTORIAN GOLD FILLED CAMEO TASSEL BOOK CHAIN NECKLACE CLASP PENDANT CONNECTOR DESCRIPTION - WOW! This is a beautiful piece of handmade Victorian cameo jewelry. It's the clasp connector / pendent part of a book chain necklace. It has an o-ring on one side to attach the chain and an open cavity on the other side that fits a Victorian era box clasp. The cameo is pink shell with a white carving of a male in robes. The gold is finely chased with intricate black channeled flower vines on each side and hand hammered designs throughout. And the original tassels are attached as a separate piece so they are full of movement. This item is complete and not missing any of its original pieces (other than the necklace, of course). MAKER - Unknown - probably English or American MEASUREMENTS - 1 1/2 inches long total (tassel attachment piece 1 1/4") x 1 1/16 inches wide (including o-ring) x 1/8 inch deep (to top of cameo) AGE - Victorian 1850's - 1880's MATERIAL - Both yellow gold filled and gold plate. The main body is gold filled and the part around the cameo, round O-rings, and tassels are gold plate. WEIGHT - 5.1 grams ITEM CONDITION - Although still a beautiful piece, it does show use and wear. There are places of plate wear on the plated areas and the edges of the gold filled areas are a little worn. There is a tiny bit of missing black on the top of the right vine. The tassel balls have wear / color loss. On the back, where the box clasp would enter, its not smooth but the metal is slightly warped from the box clasp being pulled out roughly over and over again. It looks and feels like a bubble. It could be smoothed out again by a jeweler or used AS-IS since its only on the back (SEE PHOTOS #11, 12, 13). I absolutely love this unique pendant clasp and think its one of the loveliest Victorian pieces... so I want to see it out there again and used by another collector who needs it for their necklace or collection.
