Antique Malay Wedding Embroidery from Penang, Malaysia

Description: This is an elaborate Antique Malay Wedding Embroidery from Penang, Malaysia. This wonderfully bedazzled heavy embroidery was purchased by my father in the early 1970's in Penang, Malaysia during the period he owned an Antique Shop in Batu Ferringhi. As a motivated collector of Chinese & local Malay textiles he purchased a number of these embroideries from local Antique Shops that primarily specialized in Peranakan and / or local Chinese items. His two primary dealers were well established sellers located in the vicinity of the E & O Hotel. I would conservatively estimate this embroidery dates to after the turn of the Century. This pink / gold tasseled embroidery uses Maroon felt as the base fabric and has primarily gold stitching & embellishments. The piece also has a 1 1/2 inch cloth lining on the top as well as heavy stitched canvas / cloth backing. Condition Description: Overall the Embroidery is in Excellent to Very Good Condition - there are some stray threads on each top margin of the embroidery where it is attached to the backing. The bright spots in each picture (if any) are simply reflections from the camera flash.
