Description: Very Rare Large Cast Iron Statue of a young Venetian Page in Italian Renaissance Style . Excellent Condition. Called “The Halberdier” as the Figure Holds a Halberd or Pike Weapon / Spear . Spear Head Is also Cast Iron , Is Removable and head of Pike Or Halberd is Gold Leafed. See Pictures. There is slight damage to the hand that holds the spear as the thumb tip only is broken off which is the way I bought it. Other wise Very Good Condition. Figure has interesting Female like buttocks , chest and hips. Sculptor was Edouard Houssin , a French Sculptor and this piece is thought to be cast in 1892. There were 2 Venetian pages , this being the more (less?) ornate of the Pair. I believe this one is called “Esmerelda” A complete pair is in the Saint Dizier Museum in France. In 2018 1 page statue complete and Excellent Condition sold in France for $17,600. A Second Damaged Page sold in Belgium also sold for $9,000.00 I purchased mine 20 years ago from an antique dealer. I gold leafed the Halberd Spear Head 8 years ago. Still Excellent. Statue has been expertly cared for and “green blacked” every 2 years. This involves cleaning the statue head to toe and repainting with mixed black and green flat enamel to achieve the nice patina shown. $12,300.00 priced to sell.
